Day 1 :

Hike to the Summit of Nyiragongo Volcano

Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Gisenyi, Rwanda, for a scenic transfer to the Rwanda-Congo border.

After completing border formalities and crossing into the Democratic Republic of Congo, you'll proceed to the Virunga National Park headquarters. Here, you'll meet your experienced guides and porters and receive a comprehensive briefing on the hike.

At approximately 10:30 AM, your trek commences from the Kibati starting point. The hike to the summit is challenging, traversing steep, often muddy trails through dense forest and thorny shrubs.

Along the approximately 5-hour journey, you'll witness the ever-changing volcanic landscape and observe the rich flora and fauna of the Virunga region. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking, unparalleled views of the active lava lake inside the volcano’s crater – a truly awe-inspiring sight unlike any other on Earth.

Day 2 :

Descend and Return to Kigali

After a restful night under the starlit sky, wake up to a beautiful sunrise over the volcano. Following a hearty breakfast, it’s time to begin your descent from the summit.

Depending on weather conditions and the group's pace, the downhill trek typically takes approximately 3-4 hours. The stunning views on the descent offer a different perspective of the captivating landscape.

Once back at the base, your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Goma. If time permits and the itinerary allows, you may enjoy a short city tour of Goma, with a chance to visit the intriguing Goma caves and experience a glimpse of local Congolese culture.
